Bio

Kevin Matthews begins his first year at Pierce College as a Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach. He played basketball at Morningside High School in Inglewood, CA., and won the Division I State Championship in his senior year, he later went on to play College Basketball at Sacramento State University. 
 
Prior to Pierce, Matthews had spent seven years as the Girls Basketball Head Coach at King Drew High School in Compton, CA and he spent four years as a Head Boys Coach at Lennox Math and Science High School.

While at King Drew High, he conducted P.E. classes, recruiting, strength and conditioning. He has been named Coach of the Year and was awarded numerous coaching honors for his dedication to players, as well as their education. 

In his third year as Head Coach at King Drew Medical Magnet, he led the Lady Eagles to the 2017 C.I.F  Division II C.I.F. Championship, and numerous basketball players earned Division I scholarships under Coach Matthews while at King Drew High.  

In addition, to coaching high school students and helping them achieve high developmental skills that elevated them to a college platform, Coach Matthews has also had the pleasure to train pro players while coaching seven years in the summer at the world- famous basketball Drew League, a high-profile Pro-Am League in Los Angeles.

Coach Kevin is dedicated to the community and a recent graduate attaining his Masters in Counseling that includes a PPS certification from the State of California. 

According to Kevin he enjoys traveling and spending time with his family. “I look forward to joining the Pierce College family and continuing to build the program.
