2019 Pierce Women's Soccer
The Lady Brahmas have concluded another season finishing with an overall record of 7-10-4, just short of a playoff spot. It was a tough season with just three returning players to step back on the field on the red, black and white jersey. The team had a whole group of new faces, new starters and new personalities. It was a roller coaster of the season, starting the season against a top opponent. But did not give up, they continued to fight day in and day out, pushing each other to do better and get better. With such a young group the Lady Brahmas have a bright future. This year was not what was expected but with the leadership it was built on this year, the lady brahmas will make a name for themselves.
Pierce was led by the fantastic play of a group of sophomores that anchored the team at its core and leaves us with great production and prestige. Diana Millan (Agoura HS) followed her impressive 2018 year with having to lead a group of freshman this 2019 season. Opponents knew who Millan was and making sure they shut her down but it was a task she made difficult. Millan got knocked down, pushed and shoved but that did not let her stop her goal of getting her team in dangerous position. She was our leader of this freshman group, someone the girls look up and follow by example. It was no easy task for her to take on but she was the leader finishing the season with 8 goals and 8 assists, taking home her second 1st Team All Western State North Conference. She will be missed on the field. But she did not do it alone, Sherry Ramos (Van Nuys HS) was on the defensive line stopping goals and preventing our opponents from scoring. She brought her knowledge from the past season and gave everything she had to her teammates. She did not give up, a player who is hardworking no matter what is thrown her way. Sherry did not do it allow, she had help from her other defensive half Jessica Palmer (Himeji-nishi HS, Japan). Jessica Palmer finishing her season with the Brahmas by helping either on defense or on offense. She has such a respect and commitment to the team. One can always find her practicing on her own or do the little things no one really considers doing. We would like to thank our great group of classman for putting so much effort into the season.
The sophomore class could not have done it without some help from the backline. Even though they were small in stature but their heart and dedication was nothing short of providing amazing shot blocking shots. Natalie Daniels(Valley Academy of Arts and Science HS) our small but feisty center back, came off as quiet looking but once she stepped on that field and put on the Brahma jersey, she was someone you did not want to take on. Daniels made sure her backline was doing what they had to do. She pushed players twice her size and not showing them fear. She earned herself Honorable Mention All Western State North Conference. But she was not stopping opponents on her own. Isabel Diaz (El Camino Real HS), another small but excellent player, was a force you wanted no part of. She would slide-tackle and jump higher than her opponents. Diaz made a presence and name for herself in the brahma book. With her dedication and stamina on the field, she was one we looked to when the going got tough. She made sure players new who she was and helped so much in the backline. Isabel didn't let balls one thought were going in the goal. Her heart and soul was left on that field without a doubt after every game. For her efforts she earned 2nd team All Western State North Conference. The defense did have defensive and offensive help from Sofia Caparelli (Millikan HS), she was a great contribution to the team. Caparelli had a strong presence on the team, the girls looked to her for support and leadership. She made sure to boot the ball yards away from our goal. Caparelli finished the season with 4 goals and 5 assists, the goals gave us advantages in games. Yet she finished her season with a hurt knee, she gave as much as she could but that wasn't going to stop her from playing. For her work effort she earned herself 2nd team All Western State North Conference.
As a team and being one unit, the Lady Brahmas could not have done it without the extraordinary contributions from everyone on the team. Every single player and made an impact on and off the field and we thank you for your commitment, sacrifice and dedication to the team. Joanna Cerda and Bailey Swain, you keepers contributed so much in goal with amazing saves. Stay strong and focused and prepare for the season to come. Thank you to the rest of the Lady Brahma Freshman Yessenia Marquez, Halle Manalili, Raquel Machorro, Maya Hayun, Preet Kaur, Julianna Euyoque, Amelia Weckhurst, Gabriela Portillo. You young Ladies will make our program stronger and bright for the next season.
