It was hard to envision a better way to close out 2023, for the L.A. Pierce Women's College Basketball Team. Pierce was down by as much as 10 points in the foruth quarter before a furious comeback.
In her first start of the season, sophomore Katherine Sanchez tied the game late with two clutch free throws. While Citrus had possesion their go-ahead bucket was off the mark. It was then that leading scorer Chassen Gutierrez broke away for what would be the game winning layup.
Gutierrez led all scorers with 25 points and played a total of 40 minutes. Center Tijera Henry recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
The win moved the Brahmas record to 12-4 and broke a brief two game losing streak.
Pierce now gears up for conference play. They will begin against Moorpark College on Wed. Jan 10 at 7 p.m.
