Sophomore Brenda Medina scored two goals, and Isabel Morales recorded an assist as the #15 seed LA Pierce College women's soccer team won in the first round of the SoCal Regional Playoff, defeating #18 El Camino College 2-1, at Shepard Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Brahmas improved their overall record to 14-5-2 and advanced to play at #2 Pasadena City on Saturday, Nov 23 at 2:00 p.m.
Pierce scored just before halftime off of a corner kick when a Isabel Morales cross was headered in by Brenda Medina. The sophomore was able to beat the goalkeeper and header it past the defense off the crossbar and into the net.
In the 55th minute, LAPC was awarded a penalty kick after a foul on freshman Jocelyn Coronado inside the box. Medina stepped up from 12 yards out and successfully converted the penalty to double the lead.
With only ten minutes remaining, El Camino would get one goal back courtesy of Sophia Hudson. However, the Brahmas successfully defended their goal and limited scoring opportunities to hang on for the win.
Pierce outshot El Camino 7-1. The Brahmas hope to make a long run in the postseason, as their best previous finish was in the semifinals.
